FP-04Mark the spot and drill with careMark your hole with a pencil, then before drilling: if there is any doubt at all about what's behind the board, isolate the electrics at the consumer unit (the fuse box) and turn off water at the stopcock before cutting into anything that could carry a pipe. A detector reduces risk but does not remove it - it can miss cables that run deep, sit in metal conduit, hide behind metal-backed plasterboard, or simply don't follow the usual safe zones, especially in older or amateur wiring. Always expect a cable or pipe to be there and drill as if it is, rather than trusting a clear reading alone.
